International Appearances – October 2023

In this column, we look at the Crewe Alexandra players who represented their countries in the latest international break.

Defender Connor O’Riordan, subject of a tug-of-war between the Republic of Ireland and Scotland after had both called him up for this window, made his second appearance and played the full game for the Irish’s Under-21s in their 2-1 win in Latvia on Saturday in their UEFA Under-21s Euros qualifier. They travel to Norway before hosting Italy in their next qualifiers in mid-November as they sit top of the group with 3 wins from 3 games.

Midfielder Matus Holicek added to his 2 caps and 1 goal for Slovakia’s Under-19s with a 66-minute appearance in their 4-1 win against Sweden on Friday (link in Slovakian) before their game against Sweden yesterday was cancelled after the events that occurred during the Belgium vs Sweden senior international on Monday night which saw a couple of Swedes lose their lives. They face Kosovo, Malta and Ukraine in their UEFA Under-19s Euros qualifiers next month.
