I’m the best man for the job… but we may sell.

Despite coming under increasing pressure, Dario Gradi says he is the best man for the job at Crewe Alexandra.

Anti-Gradi chants grew louder during yesterday’s 3-0 defeat at home to Shrewsbury, the third defeat on the trot for the Alex.

Sitting 15th in League Two, things at Gresty Road hit a new low mid-week with Dario admitting that his ‘primary job’ was to blood and sell on young players, their involvement in the first team was a ‘secondary consideration’.

He backed them comments up post-match yesterday, adding that our best two midfielders in James Bailey and Ashley Westwood could also be sold in the summer in order to ‘move forward’.

He told CreweAlex.net:

‘I know I won’t go on forever and I don’t necessary want to go on forever but it is important that I stay at the moment because I am the best man for the job that needs to be done.

‘If I thought handing over was the answer then I would do it, but I don’t at the moment.. We need to produce players that are good enough to be sold to survive as a football club. It is as simple as that.

‘We have players here like Ashley Westwood and James Bailey, who are good enough step up and play higher. They might be sold in the summer if the money is right because that is the only way we are going to move forward again.’

The comments have rightly infuriated fans who now feel the club lacks any direction and a first team manager with first team interests at heart.

Until the club wake up and until Dario Gradi and John Bowler get their heads out of the sand this club is going to the pits. If the atmosphere at the last two home games has told you nothing else, it’s shown just how bored fans are with the club.

With season ticket renewals coming up, the club may well be surprised at just how few fans want to keep ploughing hundreds of pounds into a club that shows no ambition or respect towards it’s paying supporters.

We support Crewe Alexandra FC and the 11 players out on the pitch every Saturday. We aren’t paying to fund Dario’s hobby that is the academy.

We can urge John Bowler to sort out this mess but I feel he has as much resentment for fans and their views right now as we have for Dario Gradi the first team manager.

Thanks for slowly killing the passion this club.
