Chris McCready and Gary Roberts have both been struck down by an illness. McCready has been ruled out of tomorrow’s trip to Hartlepool after not training all week, complaining of a heavy cold.

Gary Roberts is also struggling with a cold. The midfielder who was linked with a host of clubs this week is rated as doubtful for tomorrow’s game after missing most training this week, but should play if he gets through today’s session.

Steve Holland said you just have to cope with illnesses: ‘These types of illnesses happen a bit more this time of year and it is something you just have to deal with. I’m sure there will be a few clubs in a similar situation over December. It is part and parcel of the game.

With McCready out it will mean a major reshuffle in defence tomorrow. It looks set to be Danny Woodards who takes the spot in the centre with Woodards’ right back spot being filled temporarily by either Gary Roberts or Elliott Bennett. With George Abbey and Danny O’Donnell both injured, and David Gray returning to Man Utd, it leaves Crewe with a lack of cover.
