I Haven’t Been Given An Opportunity At Crewe

Young keeper Owain Fon Williams has rejected the chance to be Crewe’s number one next season, and had a massive pop at the club at the same time.

Fon Williams told The Sentinel ‘They’ve said these things before (about promises of his debut), but how can I believe that? It’s very hard to believe now. In a way, I have been let down, but I’ll put that behind me and look forward and see what is going to happen,’

‘All the interest in me has come from playing internationals, it hasn’t come from Crewe because I haven’t played. I haven’t been able to give the fans anything or show what I am capable of. Playing for Wales has been a boost, but I would like to have played every Saturday.’

It is believed that Fon had been offered a three year contract and the number one shirt for next year after coming to the end of his first professional contract which he signed 2 years ago.

He then went on to say ‘I haven’t been given an opportunity at Crewe at all, I’ve been here for five years now and I’ve not played one first-team game. Steve said I was going to be number one, but I don’t know how someone can say that now at the end of the season when Ben Williams hasn’t said what he is doing either way.”

“I turned down my contract as I needed time to consider my options. I’m not going to commit myself to anything. It is an important decision for me”

It seems there is plenty of interest for the Welsh Under 21 International with Premiership and Championship sides looking at him, with either Derby or Swansea the favorites to land him in the summer.

With the shot stopper being under the age of 24, Crewe will be entitled to compensation when he moves on.

Most fans will agree that Fon Willaims should have been given a chance in the first team early in the season, or even in the back end of the last season when we had nothing to play for.

It is thought that the number one shirt will now be offered to Gretna keeper Greg Fleming.
