Horsefield Backs Elding To Find Goals

&paddingLincoln City striker Geoff Horsefield is backing Anthony Elding to find some scoring form again soon.

Elding has been on loan at Lincoln from the Alex since the start of January after finding games hard to come by at Gresty Road.

Since his ‘big’ move from Leeds in the summer Elding has only made 8 league starts in red and all three of his goals for the Alex came in August.

Currently at Lincoln till the end of this month goals have not been forthcoming in the league below either. Despite scoring on his debut for the Imps the former Stockport striker is now on seven games without a goal.

It’s a run that his Lincoln team mate Geoff Horsefield says won’t last forever, saying he has full confidence in Elding to get that elusive goal soon enough.

Speaking to the Lincolnshire Echo, Horsefield said:‘Sometimes, Elds may be trying a little too hard to score the goal he is desperately searching for. Nobody can say he is not working hard enough or accuse him of being lazy, because he is running his socks off.

‘Maybe he is trying too hard because there are occasions when a striker can hit 30 balls – and he pings every single one as good as can be. Yet it will often be a goal going in off the backside that can light the touchpaper and that’s what I think will happen with Elds.’

Quite where it leaves his Crewe career remains to be seen. He was Steve Holland’s number one target for nearly a year before he finally signed in the summer, but was then shipped out on loan within a week of Gudjon Thordarson arriving.

Until he can prove himself in the league below then it’s unlikely he will play a part in Gudjon’s plans any time soon.

It’s a shame as his time at Stockport has shown he is more than capable of scoring, and scoring regularly, but we’ve seen nothing that suggests he’s up to this level, or even League Two level.
