First team coach Steve Holland says the club still have not heard back on a substantial bid for a unnamed striker, who is widely thought to be Forest Green Rovers’ Stuart Fleetwood.

The reported £175,000 offer was made last Monday but despite being promised a response by the end of the week by the player’s club, Crewe are still in the dark as to whether the offer has been accepted or not.

Steve Holland told the official site, CreweAlex.net, that he can only assume that the offer is still being considered and all we can do is wait.

”The club involved wanted us to table an offer and then they were going to decide on their options. That is the way they wanted to handle the situation, but we are still hopeful that it will be accepted and we can take it on to the next stage.”

Fleetwood, who has 26 goals this season, has already attracted interest from the likes of Charlton and Norwich, whilst Gillingham and Cheltenham have both made offers for the 24 year old. Cheltenham have since withdrawn their interest after having two offers rejected, but despite Forest Green reportedly holding out for nearly double Crewe’s offer, Holland hopes it’s tempting enough.

”We will be battling it out with others but we have made what we believe is a fair valuation for the player and hopefully that will be sufficient for the deal to come off.”
