Holland: Pleased for Higdon

Steve Holland, who takes the bulk of the first team work in a couple of weeks, was delighted to see Higdon sign for Falkirk this week.

The 38 year old Academy Director has seen Higdon’s progression through the Crewe ranks since Higdon joined as a 13-year-old. Grateful for Holland’s dedication to him, Higdon broke the news to him not long after signing the deal.

Holland told The Sentinel: ‘Mike actually rang me about 10 minutes after he’d concluded the deal with Falkirk to tell me the news.

‘I’ve known him since he was 13 and we get on well. He’s a terrific lad and I’m pleased.

‘He’s a player who can head the ball and get goals. He just struggled to find the consistency to really push himself into the first team like Nicky Maynard and Luke Varney did.

‘It will be very interesting to see what kind of impact he can make at Falkirk.’

Holland though felt that the boos that went Higdon’s way last season were something Higdon would have to deal with and thinks that fans have the right to air their views if they’re not happy.

‘Dean Ashton had spells when he got stick and Danny Murphy also had his fair share. The supporters don’t give criticism out for no reason.’

Higdon will make his SPL debut on August 4th with an away trip to Gretna but just a week later he is thrown in at the deep end with a home game against giants Glasgow Celtic.
