Steve Holland has spoken to the BBC to clear up any confusion on his and Dario’s new roles at the club.

In April, the club announced Dario would be become Technical Director as of this month with Steve Holland moving up to the role as First Team Coach. This announcement was followed up on the same day by chairman John Bowler saying ‘Dario will still be manager’, leaving most football fans in a state of confusion.

Since then, fans have guessed and second guessed the roles of the new management structure without any official confirmation. Today though, Holland spoke to the bbc.co.uk website about how the new management regime will change things.

Holland said: ‘Dario will take the administrative managerial responsibilities, have an influence on players being bought and sold and deal with contracts and the press.

This will allow me to focus all my attentions on the coaching and selection of the team.’

Which surely clears up who is more of the ‘manager’?

Last week Holland completed his UEFA Pro Licence, which will allow him to manage in the top flight, and it was last year, after a offer from Tottenham to run their Academy, the club, Bowler and Dario decided it was time to move Holland onto first team duties – hoping Steve will grow into the manager’s role.

Holland followed on to state the club’s ambitions for the next 12 months: ‘I have been doing the same job for 15 years and I have thoroughly enjoyed it, but I’m looking forward to a change and the challenge that having to get results for a first-team brings.

In my time at Crewe, we have been in this division five times and last season’s 13th-placed finish was our lowest league position since I came here.

So we know we have a lot to do to improve this year and we’ve got an idea of what needs to be done.’

So for once the issue has been put to bed. Steve Holland will have pretty close to complete control of the first team whilst Dario will look after bringing in new players, discussing contracts and over looking football at the club as a whole.

Here’s to a successful season under Holland’s guidance.
