Manager Steve Davis is delighted that supporters’ expectations are so high ahead of the start of the new season.

“The expectations are high, which is what we want. We don’t want them to think it is going to be a season of nothingness” – Steve Davis

The Alex begin life back in League One with a home game against Notts County this weekend after smashing five goals without reply past Hartlepool United in the Capital One Cup last week.

That was sufficient to extend Crewe’s current unbeaten stretch to a club record twenty games, something that Davis is naturally keen to see continue for as long as possible.

“All I would say to the fans is just come out in your numbers and get behind us, like they did in the second half of last season,” Davis told Crewe’s official website. “Hopefully we are going to be good enough to have another good season.

“The expectations are high, which is what we want. We don’t want them to think it is going to be a season of nothingness,” he added. “I don’t like that. I want them to be excited.”
