In a new country with a new start Michael Higdon seems to be relishing life away from the Alexandra Stadium. He scored two goals today for new club Falkirk away at Scottish Premier League new boys Gretna.

Higdon who was heavily criticised by sections of the crowd in his time at Crewe seems to be proving his critics wrong north of the border.

He opened the scoring for Falkirk after 13 minutes with a header and ten minutes later doubled their lead with a neat finish after teammate Steven Thomson’s shot rebounded off the crossbar.

Although Crewe fans may hate to admit it, especially after a 3-1 win, they still lacked the presence of a target man such as the departed Higdon in today`s friendly victory over Stockport.

Meanwhile another former Crewe forward Dean Ashton continued his fine pre-season form by scoring for West Ham in their 2-1 win over Roma.

Deano will be hoping that goal will help cement him his place in The Hammers starting line-up for the start of the Premiership next week. Ashton missed the whole of last seasons campaign through injury.
