Guiseley Appoint Marcus Bignot As Joint-Manager

|

Former Crewe Alexandra full-back Marcus Bignot has been appointed as joint-manager of Guieseley AFC alongside Russ O’Neill.

Bignot, 43, signed for the Alex in August 1997 for £100,000 from then-Conference side Kidderminster Harriers and won the Player of the Season award in his first season before leaving for Bristol Rovers in 2000.

He started his coaching career whilst still at Crewe as he was appointed manager of Birmingham City Ladies in 1998, where he managed for 7 years before he left the club after Karren Brady threatened to withdraw funding for the womens’ team. He would continue his coaching career in 2011 at Solihull Moors (after a spell as assistant manager) before spells at Grimsby Town and an interim spell at Barrow before Chester appointed him in September last year. He would only last until mid-April as he left after the club had announced they wouldn’t be renewing his deal beyond this summer.
