Crewe Alexandra chief Steve Davis was happy enough with the opening pre-season run-out for his side at the weekend.

Byron Moore and new signing Mathias Pogba were each on the mark in a routine 2-0 victory at neighbours Congleton Town as Davis took the chance to field most of his squad, with only Steve Phillips and Kelvin Mellor unavailable.

Davis also ran the rule over a number of trialists including ex-Northampton Town midfield enforcer Abdul Osman.

“It was a good work out for our first game and we created plenty of chances,” Davis told Crewe’s official website. “We have scored two good goals, individual goals, and were fairly tight at the back.

“There is still plenty to work on but that is what happens in the pre-season and for the first game I was reasonably pleased.”
