Goal Against Run Of Play Sees Alex Defeat

|

A 62nd-minute goal from Ollie Hawkins (his first for the Tractor Boys) gave Ipswich Town the victory against Crewe Alexandra at Portman Road yesterday, despite the visitors having the best of the play.

Manager David Artell made one change from Tuesday’s 1-0 home defeat against Lincoln City with Luke Murphy replaced by Tom Lowery in midfield with Murphy dropping down to the bench.

The opening chance of the game came in the 13th minute with Owen Dale getting in behind former Republic of Ireland international Stephen Ward on the Alex right before testing Tomas Holy in the hosts’ goal with captain Perry Ng also bringing a save from Tomas Holy 9 minutes later. The Alex should have taken the lead on the half-hour mark after a great move saw Holy make a point-blank save from Lowery.

The goal came in the 62nd minute with a quickly taken corner was headed in from close range before Luke Offord had a chance 6 minutes later that was saved well by the Czech goalkeeper.

The next games for the Alex sees us hosting Gillingham on Tuesday in the league before a trip to Bolton Wanderers next Saturday in the 1st Round of the FA Cup.

What can we take out of this game?

Probably the best performance of the season, especially in the first half, but unfortunately left with no points. It was the case of giant goalkeeper Holy (standing at 6ft 9ins) getting in the way of everything that we through at the Town goal.
