Goalkeeper Alan Martin’s decision to commit himself to Crewe Alexandra for the immediate future completed another piece of the puzzle for manager Steve Davis.

The 23-year-old Scot agreed a further six-month deal at Gresty Road yesterday and continues to offer back-up to regular Steve Phillips.

However, Davis still wants to see the former Leeds United and Ayr United keeper challenging for regular inclusion in the starting eleven and not simply making up the numbers.

“Alan needs to push himself and I’ve had a good conversation with him and he has come back in a determined mood,” Davis told Alex’s official website. “It is a short deal so he has to do the business and show he is worth another contract.”
