Gillingham Sign Vadaine Oliver

|

Gillingham have announced the signing of former Crewe Alexandra forward Vadaine Oliver, becoming the club’s second signing of the summer. The move comes after Mikael Mandron was signed by the Alex earlier this week.

Oliver, 28, started his career with Sheffield Wednesday and played for Lincoln City before signing for the Alex (where he scored 3 times in 42 appearances) in the summer of 2013. Two years later he joined York City and would also play for Notts County on loan and Morecambe before joining the Cobblers last summer.

He scored 8 times in 40 games last season, including a goal in the second leg of the play-off semi-finals against Cheltenham Town.

What are the Gills going to get from Oliver?

Oliver is a similar forward to Mandron in that he’s a target-man type of striker that looks to bring others into play rather than shoot himself and has a similar 1 goal per 5 game ratio over his career that Mandron has.

I don’t think that Oliver is the man to take the club to the Championship but he’s a solid enough signing to push towards the play-off spots.
