The fizzy pop league is to be re-named ‘The npower Football League’ from next season after a new sponsorship deal was struck by the Football League.

There will be a distinct lack of capital letters in the new campaign with the Football League today announcing:

From the beginning of the 2010/11 season, The League’s flagship competition will be titled ‘the npower Football League’ with its three divisions being titled ‘the npower Championship’, ‘npower League 1’ and ‘npower League 2’.

The deal with npower will reportedly be worth £7million per year to the Football League, up on the £6million a year deal with Coca Cola.

Football League Chairman Lord Mawhinney told football-league.co.uk: ‘I am delighted to welcome npower to this new partnership with The Football League.

‘Like us, npower recognise the extraordinary attachment that Football League clubs have with people living in their local communities. This agreement will provide real benefit to those people.’
