Stockport County manager Jim Gannon has denied that Crewe have made an approach for striker Anthony Elding.

The rumours interestingly started at the Stockport County end, with very little talk of Elding amongst Crewe fans – instead Danny Crow (Peterborough) and Andy Bishop (Bury) have been the rumoured targets.

The speculation also pops up at an interesting time as Crewe prepare a formal bid for a un-named League Two striker this week.

County manager Jim Gannon denied that the Alex had made an approach for Elding, who scored 11 in 19 games for Stockport last season, but admitted any approach would have to be considered.

He told Stockportcounty.co.uk: ‘We haven’t received any enquiries for them. The players can trust that if any club makes an approach, they will be fully informed and we will respect any opportunity that they may be given.’
