Crewe Alexandra announced on Friday that defender Kelvin Mellor and midfielder Callum Ainley are among the players the club has released this summer with the club announcing their retained list last night.
Mellor, 32, came through the Alex Academy setup, making 92 appearances for the club before leaving in 2014 to move to Plymouth Argyle. He would go on to play for Blackpool, Bradford City and Morecambe before rejoining the club last summer and would make 42 more appearances this season.
Ainley, 25, also came through the Alex’s academy structure and made 278 appearances for the club since making his debut at the age of 17 at Swindon Town.
Also definitely leaving the club are defender Sean Lawton and forward David Amoo. At the same time, new deals have been offered to Dan Agyei, Lewis Billington, Tom Booth, Charlie Finney, Chris Long, Rod McDonald and Tariq Uwakwe as well as Zak Kempster-Down, Owen Lunt and Max Woodcock, all of which have been offered their first professional contracts.
