Forward’s Tenth Of Season Cancelled Out By Late Leveller

Dan Agyei’s 10th goal of the season saw Crewe Alexandra claim another away point at Gander Green Lane against Sutton United thanks to a late goal following another red card, this time shown to defender Rod McDonald.

Manager Lee Bell made one change from last Saturday’s 1-1 home draw against Rochdale as defender Kelvin Mellor replaced the suspended Connor O’Riordan while Courtney Baker-Richardson returned to the bench after injury that had kept him out since the end of October.

The opening chance and goal fell to the visitors in the 33rd minute with Agyei heading in an inswinging corner from Tariq Uwakwe before Sean Robertson would sky the ball from close range early in the second half after good work down the left first from McDonald then Agyei.

The Alex would be reduced to 10 men just after the hour mark as McDonald received a straight red card for a high challenge on Lee Angol before the equaliser came in stoppage-time as right-back Kizzi’s cross was headed in by Rowe from 6 yards out.

The next games for the Alex see them host Salford City on Friday before travelling to Stevenage the following Tuesday.

What can we take out of this game?

Another two points that we have given away from winning positions this season (think that’s 21 now) following another red card – it’s the fourth different defender that has received one since Xmas and fifth overall this season – where we were looking to hold onto the lead by defending deep rather than attacking.
