Matt Tootle believes he can properly come to terms with his new more advanced role at Crewe Alexandra.

The 22-year-old full-back says he has always been keen to play further upfield and appears set for another chance against Leyton Orient at Gresty Road this weekend.

Crewe are once again without suspended on loan Arsenal youngster Chuks Aneke and Tootle was expected to start on the right of midfield.

“I would like to ask fans to be patient,” Tootle told This is Staffordshire “I’ve played full-back all my life and at the moment I know I’m not selfish enough when I’m on the wing.

“I could score goals if I have opportunities,” he continued. “But I have good movement and that’s important. I was glad I got a chance in this position in the play-offs last year because I thought I could do it. I have to prove now that I can on a regular basis.”
