Porter Signs 12-Month Extension

|

Crewe Alexandra have announced that striker Chris Porter has signed a new 12-month deal with the club.

Porter, 37, who has been with the club since the summer of 2017, has made almost 150 appearances for the club since joining from Colchester United. He has also played for Bury, Oldham Athletic, Motherwell, Derby County, Sheffield United, Shrewsbury Town and Chesterfield in his career.

This deal will also see him progress on his coaching career as an academy coach with the club.

What does this move mean going forward?

Whilst he’s in the twilight of his career, he had been a decent first-choice striker for the club during our League 2 campaigns as well as a solid backup option to Mika Mandron in the League 1 season that’s recently finished.

It means that we keep one of the model senior professionals that Artell has build the team around since he took charge (like Paul Green, Nicky Hunt and Eddie Nolan that have all moved on) whilst starting him on a post-playing career with a club that helped many coaches on their own career paths, including some that have gone onto coach in the England set-up as well as in the Premier League.
