Evans Becomes Third Signing In 3 Days

|

Crewe Alexandra have confirmed the signing of former Everton midfielder Antony Evans on loan from German side Paderborn until the end of the season, becoming the third signing of the winter following Billy Jones and Stephen Walker both rejoining the club on loan deals over the past couple of days.

Evans, 22, started his career with Everton, spending time on loan with Morecambe in the early months of 2017 as well as at Blackpool in League One for the first half of 2019. He joined German side Paderborn 12 months ago but has only made 8 appearances in all competitions (playing just 13 minutes this season – all of which were in 2 appearances in September).

He also represented England at Under-19 level twice in 2016.

What will his signing mean going forward?

I have to be honest and say that I know nothing about his game. This article suggests that he’s an attacking midfielder that can also play in a wide forward role so he’s likely to be competing in one of the two central midfield positions ahead of the deepest midfielder and having another body in there with the injuries to Callum Ainley and Josh Lundstram will help with the hectic schedule continuing until the end of the season.
