Ben Nugent Signs For Barnet

|

Barnet have confirmed the signing of former Crewe Alexandra centre-back Ben Nugent on a 12-month deal, becoming their first signing of the summer under new manager Peter Beadle.

Nugent, 27, started his career at Somerset-based club Street before joining Cardiff City at Under-18 level (spending time on loan at Brentford, Peterborough United and Yeovil Town) then joined the Alex in the summer of 2015. After two seasons with Crewe (where he made 66 appearances in all competitions, scoring once at Walsall in his first season), he joined Gillingham before joining Stevenage the following summer, where he’s spent the last couple of years.

What are they getting from the signing of Nugent?

At 6 foot 5, it’s pretty obvious where his strengths lie but he’s let down by a lack of pace. To solve this, Barnet should make sure that the left-back (Nuge is left-footed) and the other centre-back reads the game well and has a little bit of pace.
