Ray Signs For Exeter

|

Exeter City have announced that they have signed former Crewe Alexandra captain George Ray on a 2-year deal after he was released by Tranmere Rovers earlier in the summer. He became their third signing of the summer.

Ray, 27, started his career with the Alex (spending time out on loan at Leek Town in 2012) before making his first-team debut at Wembley Stadium in the 2013 EFL Trophy final against Southend United in April 2013. He would make 152 appearances for the club (and was captain for the final 2 seasons of his spell) before joining Tranmere in the summer of 2019.

He joins former Alex loanee Sam Stubbs at St James Park.

What does this signing mean for the club?

Ray is a tall, ball-playing centre-back who should be looking to get his career back on track after a difficult couple of years at Tranmere (they had 3 permanent managers in that time) where he only made 36 appearances across his spell.
