Former Alex Players On The Move – June 2022

In this column, we’ll look at those former Alex players that have been on the move in the month of June.

On Wednesday 1st, National League North club Chester would announce the signing of midfielder Joe Lynch on a 12-month deal. Lynch came through the Alex youth system without making a first-team appearance before being released in the summer of 2019.

On Monday 6th, National League side Oldham Athletic would announce the signing of forward Chris Porter on a 12-month deal. He made 189 appearances for the Alex before leaving the club this summer.

On Wednesday 8th, National League club Dorking Wanderers announced the signing of forward Ryan Seager for an undisclosed fee from Hungerford Town. He made 4 appearances on loan from Southampton during the 2015/16 season.

On Thursday 9th, League 2 Barrow would announce the signing of forward Billy Waters on a 2-year deal. He joins from National League club Halifax Town having made 30 appearances for first club Crewe before his release in the summer of 2015.

On Friday 10th, Championship club Swansea City would complete the signing of centre-back Nathan Wood for an undisclosed fee on a 2-year deal. Wood made 12 appearances for the Alex during a loan spell in the 2020/21 season.

On Saturday 18th, National League North side Chester would re-sign Jamie Morgan from Altrincham on a 12-month deal. He would move on from the Alex without making a first-team appearance.

On Monday 20th, League 1 Ipswich Town would announce the signing of left-back Greg Leigh on a 2-year deal. The Jamaican international joins from Morecambe and made 42 appearances for the Alex during a loan spell from Manchester City in the 2014/15 season.

On Tuesday 21st, League 2 Newport County would announce the signing of forward Offrande Zanzala. He made 10 appearances for the Alex during the 2020/21 season before he joined Carlisle United in January last year.

Also on the same day, National League club York City would announce the signing of midfielder Alex Hurst for an undisclosed fee. Hurst started out at the Alex but would be released without playing a first-team game in the summer of 2018.

On Monday 27th, League 1 Shrewsbury Town would announce the signing of centre-back Cheyenne Dunkley on a 2-year deal. He joined from Sheffield Wednesday having started his career with the Alex before being released by the club without making a first-team appearance in the summer of 2010.

Also on that day, Barrow would add to their ex-Alex numbers by signing George Ray from Exeter City on a 2-year deal. The centre-back came through at the Alex and would make 152 appearances for the club, including captaining the club in his final season, before leaving in the summer of 2019.

Fellow League 2 club Gillingham signed forward Scott Kaskhet. Kashket would make 19 appearances for the Alex last season before being released this summer.

National League Chesterfield announced the signing of George Cooper. Cooper made 142 appearances for the Alex before being sold to Peterborough United in January 2018.
