In this column, we’ll look at those former Alex players who have been on the move during the month of July.
On Monday 1st, goalkeeper John Ruddy signed for Premier League Newcastle United on a 12-month contract. John made 19 appearances for the Alex in the second half of the 2008/09 season.
On Tuesday 2nd, midfielder Lewis Leigh permanently signed for League 2 Bromley from Preston North End for an undisclosed fee. Lewis played 14 times for the Alex in the second half of last season.
On Wednesday 3rd, defender Rio Adebisi signed for League 1 Peterborough United from the Alex on a 3-year deal for an undisclosed fee. Rio made 136 appearances for the club in all competitions, with the final game being the play-off defeat against Crawley Town in May.
On Thursday 4th, goalkeeper James Beadle would join Championship Sheffield Wednesday on another season-long loan from Brighton & Hove Albion. James made 9 appearances for the Alex in the second half of the 2022/23 season.
On the same day, midfielder Antony Evans swapped League 1 clubs as he moved from Bristol Rovers to Huddersfield Town for an undisclosed fee. Antony played 14 times for the Alex in the second half of the 2020/21 season.
On Friday 5th, defender Nathan Wood moved from Swansea City to Premier League Southampton on a 4-year deal for an undisclosed fee. Nathan made 12 appearances for the Alex in the second half of the 2020/21 season.
On Monday 8th, forward Billy Bodin signed for League 1 Burton Albion on a 2-year deal. Billy made 9 appearances in all competitions during the 2011/12 season.
On Tuesday 9th, defender Toby Mullarkey moved from Grimsby Town to League 1 Crawley Town on a 2-year deal for an undisclosed fee. Toby came through the Alex’s academy set-up but didn’t make a competitive appearance for the club before his release in the summer of 2017.
On Wednesday 10th, forward Courtney Baker-Richardson joined Newport County on a 2-year deal. Courtney made 76 appearances for the Alex over the last 2 seasons before rejecting a new deal with Crewe.
On Friday 12th, defender George Ray joined League 2 Morecambe after his release from Barrow. George made 152 appearances for the Alex after coming through the academy (including making his debut at Wembley in the 2013 EFL Trophy final) before he left to join Tranmere Rovers in the summer of 2019.
On Monday 22nd, forward Offrande Zanzala joined National League AFC Fylde following his release from Newport on a 12-month deal. Offrande made 10 appearances for the Alex during the first half of the 2020/21 season.
On Tuesday 23rd, forward Lachlan Brook moved from Western Sydney Wanderers to Major League Soccer side Real Salt Lake on an 18-month deal with the option of another 2 years beyond that for an undisclosed fee. Lachlan made 38 appearances for the Alex in the 2022/23 season.
On the same day, midfielder Regan Griffiths joined the National League North side Marine. Regan made 52 appearances for the Alex before he joined Kidderminster Harriers in January.
