Crewe Alexandra have announced that goalkeeper Sam Booth has signed a 12-month deal on non-contract terms as cover for goalkeepers Will Jaaskelainen and Dave Richards.
Booth, 18, was initially released upon the expiry of his scholarship deal in the summer but has represented Alex Morris’ Under-23 team in 2 of the 3 games that have been played so far in their season as well as playing for Sandbach United in their first team.
What does this mean for the Alex?
We have signed a goalkeeper that knows the club already and has played with a number of the team already for the Under-23 teams either last season or in the games this term. He was an important part of Lee Bell’s Under-18 team that got to the 4th Round of the FA Youth Cup last season and was a little unlucky not to have been given a professional deal in the summer.
Him signing the deal will mean that the club will prefer to have a goalkeeper on the bench when Will joins up with the Finnish Under-21 side next week rather than going with 7 outfield substitutes.
