Assistant boss Neil Baker has warned his Crewe Alexandra players they must forget about Wembley for the time being and instead focus on doing the business in the league.

“People can’t hold their places on performances like that” – Neil Baker

The Alex were well below their best against Hartlepool United in midweek and paid the price with a comfortable 3-0 defeat to their lowly hosts at Victoria Park.

“Maybe one or two of the players were dreaming of an appearance at Wembley with the performance at Hartlepool on Tuesday night,” Baker told Crewe’s official website. “They can’t do that at this stage of the season with the number of games that we have left.

“People can’t hold their places on performances like that, and they need to learn that,” he warned. “We have got people chomping at the bit trying to get back in to the side.”

Crewe take on League Two opponents Southend United in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy final at Wembley on 7th April.
