Former Alex trainee Owain Fon Williams is receiving all the plaudits this week as managers show their appreciation.

The 20 year old keeper left Crewe in the summer having not played a senior game for the club, despite becoming a regular in the Wales U-21 side. After being linked to various Premiership clubs, Owain joined Stockport where he took on the number one shirt.

Since the start of the season Williams has impressed more and more, helping County to a 1-0 win against Hartlepool at the weekend.

His performance even received praise from opposition manager Danny Wilson who told The Northern Echo: ‘I have to say he (fon Williams) played outstandingly well but I think overall we can`t be too disappointed again.

“We thought they would put 11 men behind the ball, which made it very, very difficult but we still created the chances.

“The goalkeeper has been absolutely inspired, as I said.’

Obviously Stockport manager Jim Gannon also had words for Williams. Gannon, who spent a spell at Gresty Road during his playing days told the Manchester Evening News:

‘Owain has been brilliant for us,’

‘It just goes to show you the quality of player out there who is not being given the chance.

‘I’m delighted I trusted him and he’s exceeded my expectations unbelievably.’
