Former Celtic striker Danny Gardner is to get a run out for the Crewe fringe side this afternoon as he looks to earn himself a contract at Gresty Road.

Gardner, who spent a year at Glasgow Celtic before returning south to Flixton in the summer, will spend a month with the club as he looks for a way back into professional football.

The 19 year old has already had a trial at Oldham Athletic and after a tip-off from former assistant Neil Baker, Dario says that Gardner has fitted in well during training at Reaseheath.

Speaking to CreweAlex.net Dario says there’s a chance Gardner could make the move permanent:

Neil has recommended Danny and he has been invited to train with us.

‘He has certainly not looked out of place in the training sessions and we will have an opportunity to look at him against Aston Villa on Wednesday. If he scores a hat-trick there then we would quickly get a contract sorted!’

Gardner will be joined by the likes of James Bailey and Carl Martin in the team against Villa today whilst winger Joel Grant returns to action after a four week lay off.
