Crewe Alexandra got their first victory of the season and inflicted a fourth successive home league defeat on Shrewsbury Town at the Greenhous Meadow.

The winner arrived after only a couple of minutes when on loan Swansea City midfielder Adam King struck his fourth goal in nine games.

Shrewsbury went close to an equaliser as Jordan Clark hit the crossbar but their opponents held on to move themselves off the bottom of the table.

The Railwaymen had a perfect start as Jermaine Grandison was dispossessed and King produced a low twenty-yard shot into the bottom corner.

Brad Inman almost had another when narrowly wide and Clark clipped the crossbar at the other end before Abu Ogogo headed over.

Alex keeper Ben Garratt next saved low from Larnell Cole and Clark dragged a further effort wide prior to the break.

On loan Fulham midfielder Cole tested Garratt again after the restart and was then too high from close in.

Meanwhile, substitute Marcus Haber headed over Chris Atkinson’s late run and cross towards the other end.
