Finney Double Sees Off Blades

|

Two Oliver Finney goals were enough to see Crewe Alexandra’s Under-23 team defeat their Sheffield United counterparts at Bracken Moor this afternoon despite Stephen Mallon’s equaliser. These goals were the fifth and sixth that Finney has scored in the Under-23 Professional Development League this season.

Manager Alex Morris named Will Jaaskelainen in goal with a back 4 of Travis Johnson, Billy Sass-Davies, Eddie Nolan and Kevin O’Connor in front of him. The midfield 4 saw Finney, Josh Lundstram, Luke Offord and Rio Adebisi whilst Tom Lowery played off Lewis Reilly up top. On the bench were goalkeeper Sam Booth, Ola Odipe, Joe Robbins, Malachi Linton and Matty Fenton.

The opening goal came on the half-hour mark as Finney shot from distance beating home keeper Jordan Amissah before Mallon equalised 4 minutes before the break. The winner came 20 minutes from time thanks to another Finney effort, this time curling the ball into the top corner despite Amissah’s touch.

The Under-23 team are back in action at Reaseheath against Leeds United next Monday afternoon.

Crewe (4-4-1-1): Jaaskelainen; T. Johnson, Sass-Davies, Nolan, O’Connor; Finney, Lundstram, Offord, Adebisi; Lowery; Reilly

Sheff United: Amissah, Sheppeard, Boyes, Doherty (c), Cantrill, York, Broadbent, da Silva (Williams 62), OureĀ (Neal 62), Hallam, Mallon (Greaves 62)
