McDonald Becomes Fifth Signing

|

Crewe Alexandra have announced that experienced defender Rod McDonald has become their fifth signing of the summer, penning a 12-month deal following his release from Carlisle United.

McDonald, 30, came through the Manchester City and Stoke City academies before joining Nantwich Town on loan in 2009. He would also play for Oldham Athletic with loan spells at Stafford Rangers and Nantwich before spells at Colwyn Bay, Nantwich, Hereford United, AFC Telford United, Northampton Town, Coventry City and AFC Wimbledon before spending the last couple of seasons with the Cumbrians.

He becomes the second signing to have signed from Carlisle this summer following the return of Kelvin Mellor.

What does this signing mean for the club?

Football League expert Gab Sutton had this to say about McDonald:

Either way, he’s an experienced player who has made over 300 appearances in his career and had to work his way from non-league back into the Football League.
