Crewe Alexandra boss Steve Davis is expecting latest arrival Gregor Robertson to add both experience and balance to his young side.

The former Scottish Under-21 international left-back has signed a two-year deal with Alex after his contract expired at Chesterfield. He follows centre-back Mark Ellis into the club after joining from Torquay United last week.

Robertson, 28, also has previous experience at Championship level with Nottingham Forest before turning out in League One for both Rotherham United and Chesterfield during more than two hundred senior games.

“Gregor is a player we looked at last year, but Chesterfield wanted to keep him and he got back in their team when they started to win games,” Davis told This is Staffordshire. “He’s had experience playing in the Championship and at this level – that will be invaluable. He’s a left-footed defender which will give us that balance.

“Mark Ellis, who we signed last week from Torquay, plays on the left-hand side of central defence so there will be a bit of work to do with that partnership in the pre-season matches.”
