Following last season’s work on a new £300,000 astroturf pitch at the club’s training ground, yet more plans have been unveiled to expand the club’s facilities. The Shavington-based Soccer Centre is set to receive massive expansion, at a cost of £570,000. The Shavington Soccer Centre is used exclusively for community projects and for youngsters from the age of 4.

The £570,000 will see various additions made to the site. The main all-weather pitch is to be replaced by a ‘third-generation’ surface, alongisde which a 74-seater viewing area will be erected enabling parents to watch their children. Furthermore, an existing goalkeeper training area is to be doubled in size, whilst the car park’s capacity is also set to be doubled. Meanwhile, the changing rooms will also be revamped to include a ladies’ officials room.

Crewe Community Officer Ray Walker revealed that the club are trying to encourage 11-a-side football amongst their youngsters, whilst also hoping to incorporate a Ladies’ team.

It’s all about the youth academy, I am struggling to think of many clubs in the premiership with similar facilities.
