While Crewe are struggling to keep up with speculation about a number of their players leaving, non-league Exeter are backing one of them to leave.

Danny Woodards joined Crewe from Exeter in last season’s transfer window and now his former club have admitted they would be happy to see him leave Crewe in January for better things, no doubt sweetened by the fact they get a 20% sell on windfall.

Exeter’s sporting director Julian Tagg has said as much in the press and claimed that Woodards move to Crewe was just a stepping stone for his progression on to bigger and better things.

Crewe will be hoping to hang on to the talented full-back and fend off interest from clubs such as Sunderland and Middlesbrough, whilst Exeter are keeping their fingers crossed for an early New Year bonus.
