Ex-Alex Players On The Move On Deadline Day

|

Whilst there were no players arriving at the Alexandra Stadium on Deadline Day following the arrivals of loanee defenders Jamie Sterry and Aaron Taylor-Sinclair earlier in the week, there were 4 former Alex players on the move on the final day of the January Transfer Window.

The first move saw Chris Dagnall leave Bury and join Tranmere Rovers, the club that gave him his debut in 2003. After leaving the Alex for Bury in the summer of last year, he found it difficult to break into the Shakers team under former strike partner Ryan Lowe and has joined Rovers on a deal until the end of the season. He could be in the squad as they face the Alex at Prenton Park on Friday 8th March.

The next move saw Middlesbrough Under-23 captain Sam Stubbs join Notts County until the end of the season. Sam played 8 times for the Alex during the first half of last season from Wigan Athletic before moving to the Boro last summer and could be involved as County come to the Alexandra Stadium on Saturday 13th April.

Player number 3 is Harry McKirdy who has joined Newport County on loan until the end of the season. The striker becomes their third signing of the day from Aston Villa after scoring 3 times in 16 games for the Alex in the second half of last season.

The final transfer of the day saw Port Vale sign Dan Trickett-Smith from Neil Baker’s Leek Town. The attacking midfielder who left the Alex at 16 to sign scholarship forms with Liverpool in 2012 has signed a 2-and-a-half year deal with the Valiants but will spend the rest of the season on loan at Leek.
