Anthony Elding has apologised to the management, players and fans for his reaction to being substituted on Saturday.T he former Stockport man left in a sulk when subsituted in the 67th minute against Colchester. Throwing his arm back towards a sympathetic Joel Grant, Elding proceeded to snatch his training top from the hands of Andy Franks, the fitness coach.

Elding’s replacement, Tom Pope, went on to score the Alex’s 2nd goal of the game just two minute after coming on.

The reaction of Elding was later dealt with internally by the club, with Steve Holland reminding his players to keep their temper, no matter how passionate they get. Elding has today apologised for his reaction, saying frustration got the better of him after a poor performance.

A statement on the official website, crewealex.net, read:

‘I would like to apologise to everyone for my reaction to being substituted during Saturday’s game. It was wrong for me to react that way, as it was disrespectful to the manager, my team-mates, staff and the supporters. It will not happen again.

‘My reaction was purely because I was substituted. I’m determined to do well for myself and for the club. I was brought to Crewe to score goals, and I have not done that in the last few games. I know I had not had the best of games that day and to be subbed after 60 minutes, well my frustration just got the better of me.

‘I would like to take this opportunity to apologise to the supporters, the staff and everyone associated with the club.’
