3 goals in the opening 10 minutes gave Crewe Alexandra a great early platform to beat Cardiff City in the Under-23 Professional Development League thanks to 2 goals from Connor Heath after Alex Nicholls had given the visitors the lead.

Manager Alex Morris named Will Jaaskelainen in goal with a back 4 of Travis Johnson, Josh Lundstram, Billy Sass-Davies and Luke Offord in front of him. In midfield, Regan Griffiths, Joe Lynch and Tom Lowery played with Nicholls and Owen Dale either side of Under-18’s forward Heath up front. On the bench were goalkeeper Sam Booth, Malachi Linton, Matty Fenton and Rio Adebisi.

The opening goal of the game came in the fifth minute with Nicholls scoring from close range before Heath got 2 for himself, firstly from close range in the 9th minute before a long-range drive a minute later. Stuart O’Keefe would reduce the deficit on 26 minutes from the penalty spot for the hosts while Cardiff defender Laurence Wootton was sent off for 2 bookings, 1 in each half.

The next game for Morris’ men is a game at home to Bristol City on Monday 8th April at the Alexandra Stadium (1.00pm kick-off) before the season ends with a trip to Colchester United the following Monday.
