Crewe Alexandra manager Steve Davis remains keen to sort out the goalkeeping situation at Gresty Road.

“We’re going to try and do something with Fred until the end of the season” – Steve Davis

The Railwaymen require both a new reserve keeper and goalkeeper coach following Scott Shearer recently joining Burton Albion on loan until the end of the season.

Davis was hoping to bring in the much-travelled Fred Barber, 51, in a coaching capacity, while ex-Shrewsbury Town and Port Vale shot-stopper Joe Anyon, 28, is currently training with the club.

“We have options,” Davis told BBC Radio Stoke. “And we’re going to try and do something with Fred until the end of the season.

“Obviously, it’s got to be within budget,” he added. “But he’s got exceptional experience and he’ll help Ben until the end of the season until we know what’s happening with Scott Shearer.”

The Alex chief also hopes to hear this week whether Watford striker Uche Ikpeazu can extend his loan.
