Crewe Alexandra have released youngsters John Johnston and Callum Prichard-Ellis after deciding against extending their current deals.

Both were on short-term six-month agreements with the Railwaymen but are now departing Gresty Road.

Johnston originally arrived from Leek Town in January 2013 before the winger was loaned back to his former club.

He was though a regular for the Alex’s Under-21 side this term, and appeared on the bench for the first-team visit to Crawley Town at the start of November, later making half-a-dozen appearances on loan to Conference Premier strugglers Alfreton Town.

Prichard-Ellis was one of seven Academy graduates to sign professional terms in the summer and has spent time on loan at Alsager Town and Northwich Fixton Villa this season.
