A timely double-boost for Crewe Alexandra has seen experienced goalkeeper Steve Phillips and joint-leading scorer Mathias Pogba both returning to training.

“With those players coming back, it means I don’t have to do anything silly or drastic in the loan market” – Steve Davis

Phillips hasn’t actually featured at all this season after requiring a precautionary knee operation to remove a lump, while Pogba, who only joined the Alex over the summer, last appeared a month ago when aggravating knee ligaments in a 5-1 defeat at Brentford.

Another recent signing, winger Michael West, is similarly closing in on a return from a knee injury and young defender Andy White is already back in the fold.

“Steve Phillips and Pogs are back with us and so is Andy White. Michael West is still a bit off but not by much,” manager Steve Davis told Crewe’s official website. “With those players coming back, it means I don’t have to do anything silly or drastic in the loan market but we will assess it if anything interests us.”
