A goalless draw played in front of almost 4,400 fans saw Crewe Alexandra and AFC Wimbledon share the points at the Alexandra Stadium yesterday.
Manager Lee Bell made one change from last Sunday’s 1-0 home win against Tranmere Rovers with defender Connor O’Riordan making his first appearance of the season after his loan spell at Raith Rovers replacing the injured Charlie Colkett, Callum Ainley returned to the matchday squad for the first time since the end of September.
The opening chance fell to the visitors in the 3rd minute with Arthur Okonkwo making an easy save from a Josh Davison shot before stand-in captain Rod McDonald would turn Harry Pell’s effort wide of the goal in a first half that contained few chances at either end.
The second half started with Bassala Sambou hitting the base off the post from a Rio Adebisi cross before Tariq Uwakwe would fire over from a short free-kick from Lachlan Brook. Sambou would head wide from a Dan Agyei cross in stoppage-time
The next games for the Alex host travel to Mansfield Town next Saturday before hosting Stockport County the following Saturday (both are 3:00 pm kick-offs).
What can we take out of this game?
A poor game played between two poor teams where you could take one of the teams off the pitch and the other wouldn’t have scored before midnight.
As far as the ticket promotion was concerned, that game will definitely not be attracting fans who are not regulars/season ticket holders at the club to watch more games at full price.
