The largest crowd of home fans since 1969 was not enough to help Crewe Alexandra to all three points after a goalless draw against Colchester United at the Alexandra Stadium last night.
Manager Lee Bell made 1 change from last Saturday’s 2-0 win at Grimsby Town as Shilow Tracey replaced Jamie Knight-Lebel, the defender dropping down to the bench.
The first chance came in the 11th minute as Arthur Read would curl a free-kick over the bar before Harry Anderson would also miss the target for the visitors 5 minutes later. Tracey would have the first effort for the Alex on the half-hour, earning a corner with a shot from a tight angle before Lyle Taylor would force Filip Marschall into a decent save down to his left on the stroke of half-time. They would also have the ball in the net in stoppage-time as Fiacre Kelleher headed in from a corner which would be disallowed for a foul.
Marschall would make a save from substitute Jack Payne on 64 minutes before Taylor would miss the target 6 minutes later. Tracey would hit the outside of the post with 10 minutes to play after decent play saw substitute Omar Bogle play him into the shooting position with both teams unable to get the break-through they were after.
The next games for the Alex see them travelling to Cheltenham Town on Boxing Day (that game will be live on SkySports+) before making the trip to MK Dons a week tomorrow.
Final Thoughts:
That was a dull game that could have been played until the kick-off of the next game with neither team scoring.
As far as the crowd were concerned, it won’t have done too much to get those people who went to the game that aren’t regulars to part with their money and attend the stadium when there isn’t a ticket promotion on.
