Summer arrival Abdul Osman has asked Crewe Alexandra fans not to compare him with departed skipper Ashley Westwood.

“It’s my job to make sure the team does well, not try to be Ash’s replacement” – Abdul Osman

The 25-year-old would appear an obvious replacement to partner new captain Luke Murphy in midfield after fellow Alex youth product Westwood moved on to Premier League Aston Villa during the latest transfer window.

“Ashley did really very well for the club, but I’m a totally different kind of a player,” Osman told This is Staffordshire. “I don’t think there’s a comparison. I’ve just come in and it’s my job to make sure the team does well, not try to be Ash’s replacement.

“Myself and Luke are gelling on well at the minute, but things can certainly get better,” he continued. “That will come as we play more with each other.”

Meanwhile, leading scorer Mathias Pogba was due to return to training after undergoing an MRI scan on a knee cartilage problem. He could be back for the Leyton Orient home game in eight days time.
