Skipper Ashley Westwood agreed a four-year deal to join Premier League Aston Villa yesterday to become the latest academy product to move higher up the football ladder.

That follows the recent departure of the highly-rated Nick Powell to Manchester United in a deal set to be worth around £5m to the club.

“The final day of the transfer window is always ridiculous and you can’t be sure of what’s going to happen until the very last minute,” Davis told This is Staffordshire. “It’s always disappointing and frustrating when you lose good players because you’ve got to start again, but that’s the way it is here at Crewe.
