New signing Chris Dickson has rejected three other clubs to join Crewe, Alan Pardew has revealed.

The Charlton manager says that four clubs wanted Dickson on loan but was happy for him to choose Crewe.

Pardew told cafc.co.uk: ‘We’ve had good dealings with them and we have a good relationship with them.

‘I’m hoping he’s a big success. I want him to score goals and I think he will.

‘At all four clubs he would have learned different aspects but Crewe is as good as any.’

Pardew of course knows that Dickson is in good hands. Having signed Dean Ashton for West Ham from Norwich, a year after he left Crewe, he then splashed out £2.5million on Luke Varney this summer. Pardew later said that he would have taken Varney to West Ham had he still been manager.

Meanwhile, Dickson himself says that old Alex boy Varney played the biggest part in him signing. He told CreweAlex.net that Luke was regularly on his case, telling him to sign.

Dickson said: ‘Luke Varney has been on my case all the time! He was saying ‘Dicko’ have you signed? When are you going? You will get goals at Crewe. You will enjoy it! You could say he was a big influence on my decision!’
