New defender Mark Ellis described Crewe Alexandra as the perfect club to develop his career further.

The 23-year-old centre-back arrived at Gresty Road last month after completing a £70,000 move from League Two Torquay United.

Ellis believes he has what it takes to do the business at the higher level with his new club, who have already clearly impressed him.

“There was interest from other clubs, but when you look at the facilities here they are top notch,” he told This is Staffordshire. “For me, looking at the development of my career this was always the right place to come.

“We will be up against teams who were in the Premier League not so long ago, like Portsmouth and Coventry City, and there will be some very good players. It’s going to be a massive challenge for myself but I’m looking forward to it.”
