Crewe Alexandra boss Steve Davis was celebrating an excellent derby double following a 1-0 victory at Port Vale.

“This result is the for the fans. They made a lot of noise for us behind that goal” – Steve Davis

On loan striker Nicky Ajose scored the only goal of the contest having earlier
won a penalty but had it saved.

The Alex’s success added to a 2-1 home win against their fierce rivals back in September.

“The main thing was the three points and we got the clean-sheet as well which was pleasing,” Davis told Crewe’s official website. “We needed a bit of luck today in the last 20 minutes but I thought we defended well and Ben [Garratt] continues to get better and better.

“We can still learn things from today because we can pass the ball better second half and not invite pressure onto ourselves but this result is the for the fans,” he added. “They made a lot of noise for us behind that goal. They kept us going and it is for them. I’m sure they will have a good night.”
