Defender Mark Ellis was especially thrilled by the clean-sheet kept by his side against Coventry City last weekend.

“After losing at Brentford we had to show what we are all about and I think we did that” – Mark Ellis

The 23-year-old lined up alongside Harry Davis in the middle of defence and went on to be named man of the match as the hosts completed a narrow 1-0 victory at Gresty Road.

“It feels brilliant, especially against a quality side,” Ellis told the Crewe Chronicle. “If we can win our games at home I think we`ll be fine.

“After losing at Brentford we had to show what we are all about and I think we did that,” he added. “It has given us a big boost.”

The former Bolton Wanderers youth centre-back joined the Alex in a £70,000 move from Torquay United during the summer.
